episode summary
Stuart's knee is really causing him pain; he can't even drive his car. He plays against Villa but is in agony so Abi makes him get it checked out. The doctor confirms he has an ACL tear, which if not treated by surgery, could end his playing career.
Since their encounter, Marcel and Abi have not been getting along. Marcel admits he loves her but Abi tells him the feelings aren't reciprocated. Marcel is heartbroken and asks Stuart for a transfer, Stuart agrees - it could be good for the Clubs finances and so tries to sign two new defenders (one being guest star Mario Melchiot). Pilar is against Marcel's transfer so Marcel goes to Jeff for help. On Jeff's advice, Marcel calls in to Sky Sports News and publicly denounces Harchester and the management. Pilar is furious but still won't let him go. She makes Stuart hold a press conference to explain it was all a misunderstanding.
Meanwhile Marcel confronts Pilar and says the reason she won't let him go isn't about football – she still wants him. As she moves closer to Marcel, Stuart sees them but misses Marcel push her away. Marcel then confronts Stuart in the changing room, pushing him around saying they're all rubbish at their jobs and Harchester is one big mess.
Since Lee's debut on the pitch, agents have been falling over themselves to get to him, especially Joel Brooks (guest star Craig Charles). His offers become more and more tempting, and when Lee learns that Nikki failed her agent exams he gets Joel to sign him and Nikki. Joel gets Lee a mobile phone campaign with no fee to start him off, but Nikki finds out he can't read when he's handed the script. She strikes a deal with Lee – she'll teach him to read if he helps her become an agent. Jeff is upset that Lee and Nikki have sided with Joel so tries to show them that Joel is a schemer. He manages to set Joel up by posing as an advertiser; he offers £60k for a campaign. When Lee asks Joel how much he'll get from the advert, Joel says £5k. Lee is fuming while Jeff is chuffed that he's shown Joel for what he really is, a shark. Jeff admits all agents are sharks, but some are worse than others. Nikki sees herself as a failure as she wanted to represent Lee and make something of her life. Jeff comes up with an idea – in order to represent Lee without taking the agent exams, there's only one solution – to become Jeff's wife.
Abi thought she'd managed to convince Stuart not to play with his injury, but with Viv out and Newcastle attacking fiercely he's determined to go on in the second half. Abi begs Pilar to make him change his mind, but Pilar just urges Stuart on, she doesn't understand the seriousness of his injury. Pilar is desperate for Harchester to remain 6th in the Premiership or face administration. Harchester manage a 0-0 draw and stay 6th thanks to Stuart, but just as they're walking off the pitch Stuart collapses in agony...
